Where?
This battle took place in the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire in England. This "village" wasn't really a village, however, but a crossing point over Derwent River.
When?
September 25th, 1066
Who?
The English army led by King Harold Godwinson defended against an invading Norwegian force under King Harald Hardrada of Norway & the English king's own brother Tostig Godwinson.
What?
It was a truly horrific battle, basically a slaughtering of the Norwegians. Both King Hardrada and Tostig Godwinson were killed as well.
*This battled symbolized the end of the Viking Age.
